We make no claim that our masks are medically certified, but we consider public health guidance and scientific studies when choosing our patterns and materials.
Science
Studies comparing fabric types and combinations support the need for hand-made face masks to be multi-layered and hybrid – having both mechanical (hydrophilic) and hydrostatic (hydrophobic) filtration properties.
Materials
Liberty Tana Lawn is made from a long staple cotton discovered around a hundred years ago near lake Tana in East Africa. The iconic ultra-fine silky cotton is durable and breathable.
Non-woven polypropylene is a breathable hydrostatic fabric used in medical masks.
Real silk chiffon has a hydrostatic charge which also helps trap pollutants in water droplets and aerosols.
Egyptian cotton lawn is made from cotton that is hand-picked to preserve its straight, intact fibres. This produces a soft, fine and durable fabric that is hydrophilic and makes a very comfortable lining.
Caring for your mask
Each Jinty mask is washed, ironed and packaged in a sealed bag.
Masks should be washed before first wearing, after each use and replaced with a fresh mask if they get wet.
Hand wash the mask in hot water with soap or detergent and rinse well in clear water only.
Do not tumble dry or use fabric conditioner which would remove the hydrostatic charge from the filter layer.
Air dry or line dry and iron on silk setting while slightly damp.
If ironing your mask, a LOW SETTING must be used to avoid damage to the filter layer. Elastic and adjusters must not come into contact with the iron.
Hands should be washed/sanitised before handling masks, and the masks should be lifted by their elastic.
